The nemesis of the solar industry: keeping the weeds away

To spread the use of renewable energy and to promote technological innovation in November of 2009 the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry came out with the Feed In Tariff (FIT, a system of buying back renewable energy at a fixed price). This system guarantees the price of electricity generated by renewable energy for a specific period of time. Along with this, the introduction of PV generated electricity accelerated all at once, chiefly in the mega solar area. Contrary to the initially touted anticipation of the concept of “maintenance free,” in recent years a variety of problems have arisen hindering electric power generation. One of these problems which stands out is the luxuriant growth of weeds.
