Solvisto is a magazine specializing in solar power generation, with the premier issue published in December, 2008. Our aim is to supply those involved in the photovoltaic industry with worthwhile information through very neutral, objective reports based on our own direct coverage of the industry. We have an editorial direction based on three concepts.

The first concerns the Concept of the Market. Our intention here is to report accurately on the actual, up to date status of the market. This is because there are numerous elements of uncertainty such as the roadmaps of governments, and expansion plans on the part of the producers, as well as predictions regarding the future as put out by research companies.

The second concerns the Concept of Technology. The cost of solar power generation is comparatively high, with a large gap between this and conventional power generation. Due to this, the photovoltaic industry at present relies heavily on government assistance. Further technological development is required if it is to stand on its own and to develop as an industry. The other side of this is that it is very possible that with technological innovation the photovoltaic industry will undergo a change in the way it looks. It is for this reason that we will be devoting considerable space to new technology.

The third concerns the Concept of Materials. We will be focusing attention on trends in raw materials as they closely relate to the cost and performance of solar cells as well as the market for them. For example, most of the cost of crystalline silicon solar cells relates to the procurement price of silicon. The purity and composition of the silicon also determines the performance of the solar cells. Furthermore, the production of solar cells is directly related to the amount of raw material distributed. Materials simply cannot be overlooked when observing the solar cell technology and the market for them.
